Urban: Rise and Demise of A City
1. What can you see? From your
place to your city.
2. Explain the factors of the
rise and demise of a city. Give one example for each case.
ANSWER:
Since I live in Kg. M, Kuala Terengganu for many years, I can
see a lot of improvement in public service facilities. Kg.M is densely populated settlements. Hence, the local government always ensure
that the facilities are all well-functioning.
There is a primary school and secondary school near my house. It just 2
kilometres away from our residential. Besides, Kg. M also has the police
office. Since Kg.M is a populated settlement, we have bigger mosque, which is behind the primary school. Which means, it is near to residential area. The
location of mosque that near to residential area is important since it will
ease people, especially the eldest to get access to the mosque. Then, there is a market located in the heart
of Kg. M. Usually, villagers would
sell their crops in the market, while every Monday at night, they would sell
foods, clothes, toys, and others. Kg. M also have a best health facility. In
front of the night market, there is a clinic, while the pharmacy is just a few
metres away from the clinic and markets.
Lastly, in our place, there is a bridge with connect Kg. M with Kg.
PR. Hence, it will make us
easier to travel to the city, Bandaraya Kuala Terengganu.
One of the factors of the rise and demise of a city is a good public
service. For example, public transport.
If we take Kuala Lumpur for example, Kuala Lumpur is the big cities which has
the most efficient public transport like MRT, LRT and public busses among other
state capitals. Most of the workers
would use public transport to go to the office.
The public transport become an important transport for them. Some of them refuse to buy their own car and
become fully dependent on public transports.
This situation shows the public transport are not an issue there. Next, if we compared to Kuala Terengganu, even
though it is also a capital state of Terengganu, the public transport would not
become the first choice of their people.
Even though there are a lot of job opportunities there, the public
transports are not efficient as it has to be.
The frequency of the public transports like busses are also low. People would have no choice but to have their
own vehicles to move from one place to another.
Hence, the cost of living would increase. Many people would migrate to
another cities like Kuala Lumpur which offers high wages with the efficient
public transport. So that, they could
save more.
